Book day

Well done to everyone in Kowhai who came along dressed up as a character from a book. Check out us and the rest of the schools costumes. 

Agriculture Day

We have had an awesome morning learning about farm safety. Grant from Farmsafe talked to us about making sure we are safe around tractors and motorbikes. Did you know a quad bike is almost 300kilograms? That is why children are not aloud to ride on them with their parents because we would get squashed and hurt if the quad bike tipped on us.

We also listened to Lachlan tell us about how bees make honey. We even got to taste some of the honey his bees makes. He brought along bees so we all looked hard to find the queen bee. She is bigger than her workers and has a long tail. Did you know the drone does not have a sting?

We also listened to Ann from Clutha Vets. She brought along her son's dog called Jim. She also brought some x-rays of dogs with broken bones. Rory got to listen with the stethoscope to Jim's heartbeat. Did you know that vets are like being a doctor and a dentist? 

PMP

Kowhai has been learning about spatial awareness and language in PMP today. The children showed what it looked like to be over something and under something. 

Descriptive Writing

Today in class we had to write a description about our favourite toy. We were not allowed to write what the toy was until the end of our writing. See if you can work out what our toys are...

George:
He is really soft because he has black and white fur. My favourite toy is a dog.

Elliot:
It spins around and hits other ones. It has lights. It makes a sound. It is a beyblade.

Aimee:
My toy is fluffy and black and good for snuggling. It's fur is soft. I like my toy. It is a giraffe.

Zachary:
I have an orange and black fluffy toy dog. I like to play with my fluffy dog and take him to bed.

Alfie:
It is orange. It has four wheels. It has a remote control. My favourite toy is a monster truck.

Charlotte:
My fluffy toy is cuddly in my bed. She is pink. My favourite toy is a bear.

Cameron:
He is grey with a white tummy. I take him to be with me. It is a whale.

Rory:
He is red and silver and black. He is Micky Mouse.

Josh:
He is soft and cuddly. I sleep with him at bedtime. My favourite toy is a bear.

Riley:
My toy is white. He is really good to sleep with. My favourite toy is a teddy bear.

Bella:
My toy is fluffy, cuddly and white. He sleeps in my bed. I like my toy. He is a cuddly bear.

Instruction writing and fractions

Today in class we were learning about fractions for maths. We made sandwiches with a buddy and then cut our sandwich in to halves and then into quarters. After we did this we had a picnic on the mat and watched the America's cup. Then we wrote some instructions for how to make a sandwich. Our instructions were:

How To Make A Sandwich

1. Get 2 pieces of bread.

2. Get a knife.

3. Spread butter onto the bread with the knife.

4. Spread jam onto the bread with the knife.

5. Put one piece of bread on top of the other.

6. Cut your sandwich in half.

7. Eat your sandwich.

After we made these instructions we got Mrs Macatamney down to our class to have a go at following our instructions. They worked. She successfully made a sandwich!
